Are lipid polymers a thing?

Yes, but the phrase is broader than it looks. Lipid polymers contain lipid-like units, often made from modified fatty acids or phospholipids. They appear in cosmetics, drug delivery, and biomaterials. They aren't a single category like epoxy or polyurethane. And lipids themselves aren't polymers in the traditional sense—a fat molecule is more like a molecular aggregate. Lipid polymers are synthesized to get the structural strength of a polymer with the biological compatibility of a lipid.

Are lipid polymers common in tile adhesives or industrial coatings? Not in my world. If a supplier starts talking about lipid polymers in a construction adhesive, that's a red flag. Ask for the actual polymer chemistry and the repeat unit. Technical risk creates rework, and rework is the most expensive thing in the supply chain.

Why is the melting temperature different on every datasheet?

Because polymer melting temperature is not a single, fixed point like lead or iron. It's a range that depends on molecular weight, crystallinity, and copolymer makeup. Two polyethylene-based products with the same name can melt 20°C apart. The test method matters too. Different labs use different heating rates, and the second heat curve is often the one that's stable.

So when you search for 'melting temperature of polymers,' don't memorize a single number. Get the datasheet and look for the test standard. If the spec sheet lists a range and a method, you can compare it with confidence. If it lists one number with no method, assume it's an approximation. Fast setting vs total cost: which one wins?
